The 2013 Barclay College Bears volleyball schedule has been anything but easy over their first six games, including two NCCAA Division II top ten opponents last week. This weekend, however, there was no denying them their first victories of the season.

On Friday night, the Bears made the long trek to Florissant, Missouri to take on St. Louis Christian College in an MCCC road match. From the beginning, it was clear that the Lady Soldiers were simply out-matched by the Bears as BC won in straight sets, 25-5, 25-8, and 25-9, for their first win of the season.

Saturday, on the other hand, was a different story as Central Christian College of the Bible (Moberly, MO) welcomed the Bears to town. Last year the Bears played two five-set thrillers with the Saints, and this year was no different. The Bears came out sluggish, dropping two of the first three sets, before finishing with a bang, 22-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-17, and 15-9.

Next up for the Bears (2-6, 2-1) is a date at NCAA Division II Newman University (Wichita, KS) on Tuesday at 7:00 PM CST.

Cross-Country-Team-2013

Barclay College Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams competed in Wichita, KS on Saturday, September 7th. Friends University hosted the meet and created a course that consisted of many long hills and stretches of uneven surfaces of sand.

Being the first meet of the season, both teams set out to achieve their first time marks. They ended up accomplishing far more than just getting a time down on paper. Each athlete worked extremely hard on a very difficult course.  Barclay athletes finished with respectable times and places. They never gave up and pressed on with fast finishes. This meet is just a starting point for the Barclay athletes. Katlyn Ogle, Katie Barber, Brandi Brown and Caitlin Young represented the women’s side this weekend. Skip Harris and Joseph Spiegel represented the Men’s team.

Their next meet will be on October 28th at Tabor College. Thanks to all who are supporting the team with encouragement and prayers.

Soccer Team

The Barclay College Men’s Soccer team will be joining with the Haviland Friends Church and Siete Ejidos Friends Church in Sinalo, Mexico to provide an outreach ministry in Siete Ejidos and the local areas. The plan is for the team, along with Trent and Christy Jacks, and Chuck Townsend from Haviland Friends Church, to travel to Siete Ejidos over Fall Break, October 13 – 20. The ministry will include relationship building and special events for children and of course soccer games with a couple of local town teams. The “goal” of the trip is to join with the local church as it reaches out to the local community, especially to the men who have thus far not shown a lot of interest in the church. The cost of the trip is roughly $300 per person not including travel visas. We would like to encourage our alumni soccer players and fans to utilize the alumni soccer game event as an opportunity to help send them out as disciples who are making disciples. If you would like to contribute to this, please designate your gift with the title BARCLAY COLLEGE SOCCER MISSIONS TRIP to MEXICO 2013.
