Barclay College Men’s Basketball is off to a 3-0 start this year. Over the weekend they traveled to two MCCC opponents, Nebraska Christian College on Friday, November 18th and to Faith Baptist Bible College (Ankeny, IA) the following Saturday afternoon.

Friday, November 16th the Bears took on the Parsons of Nebraska Christian. Early on the Parsons were able to stay within striking distance as the Bears racked up twenty first half fouls. However, the Bears, led by Senior Toney Hatton’s (Irving, TX) 25 points and Freshman Caleb Stagner-Hundley’s (Savannah, MO) 17 points and 18 rebounds, were able to pull away shortly into the second half to secure the victory 94-63.

On Saturday afternoon, the Bears pressure defense and inside presence were a little too much for the Eagles to handle. At half the Bears found themselves up 61-39 and were able to close the game out 104-70. The Bears shot a blistering 72% from the field, led by Hatton’s 26 points on 11-12 shooting.

Next up for the Bears (3-0, 2-0) are the defending MCCC Champions from Manhattan Christian College at 7:30 PM CST in Manhattan, KS on Tuesday, November 27th.

The Barclay Lady Bears traveled to Omaha, NE on Friday, November 16th to play the Lady Royals of Grace University and then were in Ankeny, IA to face Faith Baptist Bible College Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Bears started out great, scoring the first seven points, and playing very strong but then went through a rough stretch to find themselves down seven. To close the half, they were able to bounce back and head into halftime down 25-20. However, in the second half, the Lady Royals were the ones who came out quickly as they pulled away for a 52-26 win. Sophomore Jamie Larsh (Haviland, KS) led the Lady Bears in scoring with 10 and Freshman Shandy Edenborough (Goodwell, OK) continued her strong play with 8 points and 9 rebounds.

“The results of this game fall squarely on my shoulders,” offered Coach Lingafelter. “I went in at halftime and simply over-coached. We have talent on this team and I should have just let them go out and make plays.”

The following afternoon, the Bears were back at it against the newest member of the MCCC, Faith Baptist Bible College (Ankeny, IA). Once again the Bears jumped out to an early lead, but this time around they were able to maintain their momentum. They went into the half with a double digit lead due largely to their stifling full-court defensive pressure and great ball movement offensively. The Bears earned their first victory of the year 61-39. Senior Kaylee Miller (Great Bend, KS) led the Bears with 15 points while Edenborough added another 12 points and 7 rebounds.

On Tuesday, November 27th, the Bears (1-2, 1-0) head to Manhattan Christian College (Manhattan, KS) for another MCCC game at 5:30 PM CST.

HAVILAND, KS – With two exhibition games already under their belt, the Barclay College Bears Men’s Basketball team kicked off the 2012-13 regular season Tuesday, November 13th against the Eagles of Rhema Bible Training College (Tulsa, OK). The last time the Bears faced off against the Eagles was in the semi-finals of the ACCA National Tournament last spring and the Eagles came away victorious. This time around it was a different story as the Bears squeked out a 118-117 win.

The Bears opened up with full court pressure and it was back and forth action all through the first half with the Eagles going into break with a narrow 60-57 lead. In the second half the Bears began to flex their muscles in the interior to stretch the lead mid-way through the half.  The Eagles kept it close by capitalizing on 15-29 (51.7%) from three point range on the game.

Down the stretch the Bears built a three point lead with less than 35 seconds left in the game, only to see an improbable four point play put the Eagles up one. After the Bears advanced the ball to half court, the Eagle defense flocked to Senior Toney Hatton (Irving, TX) and Sophomore Spencer Huiatt (Hydro, OK) was able to find Junior Austin Zamarripa (Great Bend, KS) wide open under the hoop for the game winning basket as time expired.  Sophomore Charles Brodhead (Lompoc, CA) and Freshman Caleb Stagner-Hundley (Savannah, MO) led the way for the Bears with 50 combined points and 24 boards.

Next up, the Bears (1-0, 0-0) will be traveling to Omaha, NE to begin their MCCC schedule against Nebraska Christian College on Friday, November 16th at 7:00 PM CST. On Saturday, November 17th they will face Faith Baptist Bible College (Ankeny, IA) at 3:00 PM CST.

HAVILAND, KS – The Barclay College Lady Bears hosted their first home game of the 2012-13 season on Tuesday, November 13th against the Eagles of Rhema Bible Training College (Tulsa, OK). The Eagles enter this season fresh off another ACCA National Championship in 2012.

With only two ladies in action from last year’s squad, Junior Sarah Sullivan (San Antonio, TX) and Morgan Stander (Elmwood, NE) the Lady Bears came out with a lot of energy. Midway through the first half the Eagles full court pressure began to take its toll, forcing 27 turnovers by the break, leaving the Lady Bears down by 18 at the half.

Coming out of the second half the Lady Bears never backed down from the Lady Eagles, only getting outscored by 4 points the second half, with the final score being 69-47. For the game, Barclay out rebounded Rhema  by 12 boards (58-46). Barclay College was led by Freshman Shandy Edenborough’s (Goodwell, OK) double-double with 16 rebounds and 11 points. Freshman RaeLyn Epp (Weatherford, OK) contributed 14 points and Sullivan with 9.

Next up, the Bears will be traveling to Omaha, NE to face Grace University on Friday, November 16th at 5:30 PM CST. On Saturday, November 17th they will face Faith Baptist Bible College (Ankeny, IA) at 1:00 PM CST for their first MCCC game.

The 2012-13 Barclay Bears Men’s Basketball team began practice on October 1st. This year’s roster includes a balanced mixture of returners and new players and has the potential to be a memorable year.

“I am excited about the potential that this team has both on and off the court,” said third year Head Coach Royce Bryan. “From a basketball standpoint, we could potentially play the whole bench every night. It means our practices have been and hopefully will continue to be very competitive. Most importantly, however, is the opportunity these guys have to grow in their relationship with Jesus and develop a lifestyle consistent with His way.”

The Bears return nine players from previous seasons including Seniors Toney Hatton (Irving, TX) and Shane Brown (Haviland, KS), Junior Austin Ogle (Hutchinson, KS), Junior Aaron Taylor (Palm Bay, FL), Junior Austin Zamarippa (Great Bend, KS), Sophomore Spencer Huiatt (Hydro, OK), Sophomore Tanner Stevens (Haviland, KS) and 2011-12 All-Conference selections Sophomore Charles Brodhead (Lompoc, CA) and Sophomore Brandon Howarth (Dodge City, KS). Newcomers are Sophomore Tommy Leach (Derby, KS), Freshman Caleb Stagner-Hundley (Savannah, MO), Freshman Titus Gwess (Wichita, KS), Freshman Joseph Sullivan (San Antonio, TX), Freshman Dalton Racster-Hall (Great Falls, MT), and Junior Pilo Miranda-Troup (Arvada, CO).

The 2012-13 Lady Bears Basketball team has a solid mix of newcomers to accompany a host of returners from a 9-13 season. “I am looking forward to this edition of the Lady Bears basketball team. This collection of girls has a lot of returning experience, and our newcomers have jumped right in and turned some heads. We have some skill sets that we have not had in the past, so it will be fun to mold this group of ladies into a solid team,” said Head Coach Brad Lingafelter.

Returning to lead the Bears are Senior guards Kaylee Miller (Great Bend, KS) and Artaya Climes (Lawton, OK), Junior post Sarah Sullivan (San Antonio, TX) and Sophomore guards Jamie Larsh (Haviland, KS) and Morgan Stander (Elmwood, NE). Moore, OK – At the conclusion of the NCCAA Southwest Region Tournament hosted by Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College, All-Region teams were chosen by the head soccer and volleyball coaches of all schools represented in the region.

Volleyball players Junior Sarah Sullivan (San Antonio, TX) and Sophomore Megan Eby (Arlington, WA) both earned All-Region recognition. Sullivan earned first-team status as she led the Southwest Region in kill average and was second in the region in attacking percentage. Eby cracked the top ten in the region in kill-average and ace-average as she was chosen to the second team.

Soccer players Junior Austin Ogle (Hutchinson, KS), Sophomore Aaron Collatie (Bel Aire, KS) and Freshman Eduardo Salazar (Huntsville, TX) were recognized for their successes on the pitch. Ogle turned in yet another stellar season protecting the net as goalie. Collatie emerged as a physical anchor for the Bear’s defense while Eduardo led the Bears in scoring on the season with 11 goals.

Moore, OK – The Lady Bears Volleyball team went into the NCCAA Southwest Regional as the #4 seed and faced off against host college and top seed Hillsdale Free Will Baptist on Friday, October 26th.

Hillsdale was able to take the first set 25-14 thanks to stellar serving from NCCAA Division II ace leader, Hannah Horner. In the second set the Bears came out with new found energy. It was back and forth action, with the Bears leading most of the way, but again fell short 23-25. In the third set, it was again close until the Saints finally pulled away to seal the set and match 25-15.

In the Bear’s second match of the double elimination tournament, they went up against a familiar MCCC foe, Ozark Christian College (Joplin, MO). The Ambassadors were coming off an emotional five set loss themselves but took the first set 25-10. That set was a wake-up call as the Bears bounced back and played even before dropping the set 21-25. The third set was much like the second set and the Ambassadors finished off the Bears the 25-18.

“I was so proud of how our girls played. We were shorthanded and they made the most out of the situation at hand.” said Head Coach Shari Bryan.

The Bears (5-16, 3-6) will face the Saints of Hillsdale in pool play at the ACCA National Tournament in Joplin, MO on Thursday, November 1st at 2:00 PM CST.

Moore, OK – On Friday, October 26th the Barclay College Bears Soccer team squared off with Ozark Christian College (Joplin, MO) for the second time this season. This time it was an NCCAA Southwest Region semi-final match and chance to move one step closer to a trip to the NCCAA National Championship in Florida.

On a cold, windy afternoon, the Bears were bound and determined to find a way to come out on top this time around. Midway into the first half Ozark scored first but the Bears answered shortly after when Junior Pilo Miranda-Troup (Denver, CO) sent a corner kick in for a powerful header into the upper 90 by Senior Rusty Eadie (Manton, MI). With the score 1-1 at the half, Ozark once again struck first in the second half and then added a final goal off an indirect kick just outside the 18 yard line to win 3-1.

The Bears (8-9-1, 3-3) will now head to the ACCA National Tournament in Joplin, MO. They will play Emmaus Bible College (Dubuque, IA) at 2:00 PM CST on Thursday, November 1.
