The Bears Take Third

Haviland, KS - The Barclay College men's basketball team earned 3rd place in the Association of Christian College Athletics (ACCA) National Championship on March 3-6 in Oklahoma City. They went into the tournament seeded 5th.In their first game Thursday night, the Bears defeated #4 Free Will Baptist Bible College from Nashville, TN 89-6. The Bears outrebounded the Flames 49-31 with all five starters scoring in double figures.
Friday night the Bears faced the #1 seeded Tigers from Champion Baptist College of Hot Springs, AR. After struggling from the line all night, the Bears ended up losing the game 58-68.
Saturday afternoon, the Bears squared off against Emmaus Bible College from Dubuque, IA. In spite of great 3-point shooting by Emmaus, the Bears created 17 turnovers and outrebounded Emmaus by 10. With three starters scoring in double figures, the Bears earned the 3rd place trophy, defeating the Eagles 71-65.
Junior Trent Mullikin (LeGrand, IA) was named Honorable Mention All-American and Academic All-American. He averaged 19.7 points per game and 11.6 rebounds per game for the tournament and made the All-Tournament Team. Sophomore Shane Brown (Indianapolis, IN) averaged 18.4 points per game while sophomore Philip Ireland (Fairfield, TX) averaged a double-double with 10 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. The Bears finished the season with an overall record of 16-13.
