ACCA National Champions

Haviland, KS - The Barclay College Lady Bears volleyball team was crowned the Association of Christian College Athletics (ACCA) National Champions on November 7th after winning the national tournament in Bethany, OK. The Lady Bears were the #1 seed going into the tournament and had to face down five opponents to become the champions.
In their first match the Bears defeated Crowley’s Ridge College from Paragould, AR in 4 sets; 25-20, 25-14, 23-25, 25-13. Later that day they faced Champion Baptist College out of Hot Springs, AR. The Lady Bears defeated Champion in straight sets; 25-19, 25-18, 25-19. To finish out pool-play BC took on Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College out of Moore, OK. In the third meeting of the season between the two teams, Barclay came back from 2 sets down to win 21-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-12.
In the semifinals the Lady Bears faced conference opponent Calvary Bible College from Kansas City, MO. The two teams split in their previous two meetings, but Barclay came out ahead winning in straight sets; 26-24, 25-17, 28-26.
In the Championship match the Bears again faced a conference team they had split matches with during the regular season, Nebraska Christian College from Bellevue, NE. Barclay won a close first set 25-23 before being defeated in the second by a score of 20-25. They Bears came back in the third and took the win 25-17. NCC wasn’t finished and won the fourth set 17-25. The fifth set was back and forth before Barclay got the 15-12 win.
Junior Renee Gonzales (Andale, KS) was named as the ACCA National Libero of the Year as well as the Tournament MVP, Senior LeAnn Carlson (Haviland, KS) was named an ACCA Academic All-American as well as an Honorable Mention All-American. Freshman Adele Wheeler (Haviland, KS) was also named to the All-Tournament team. The Lady Bears finished the season with an overall record of 15-7.
