Kevin Lee and the Barclay College Soccer family are excited to announce that Melvin Lara, the son of Santos and Evelyn Lara, has chosen to attend Barclay College.

Lara was first spotted by Assistant Coach Steve Davis on a recruiting trip last spring. He played 5A ball for Katy Morton Ranch High School located in Katy, Texas, and was a member of Texas United Elite Futbol Club.  Some of Melvin’s accomplishments include being selected as a First Team All-District player and being voted MVP for his High School team.

Coach Lee stated, “Melvin is the quintessential midfield play maker.”

After the Lara family made the ten hour drive from Katy, TX to Haviland, KS to check out the campus, they commented about how they felt right at home.

Tanner Huck has decided to play basketball for the Bears this coming winter. Huck is a 6’2″ small forward from Coldwater, Kansas.

As a Senior for the South Central Wildcats homeschool organization he averaged 17 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals, and 1 block per game. With the help of Huck, the Wildcats took first place at the Sunflower Invitational last January and finished their season with a fifth place finish at the National Division II Christian Homeschool Association Tournament held in Topeka, KS in mid-March.

“Tanner is a great addition to the team.,” commented Head Coach Royce Bryan. “He not only posses the ability to stretch the defense with his shooting but gives us a little bit more size around the basket. However, the best part about Tanner is that he is a great young man that loves the Lord.”

Huck is undecided on a major but is moving in the direction of something in the communication field. He is the son of Duane and Beth Huck.

SC Dahir Signing

Barclay College Men’s Soccer added more depth last week by signing Idle Dahir from Murray, Utah. Playing in the defensive back position, Dahir helped lead Murray High School to a 4A region championship and a state finals appearance. In addition to playing high school soccer, he has also played both club soccer and in the Olympic Development Program since arriving in the United States from Somalia in 2004.

Dahir considers soccer a blessing from God and his goal is to achieve a bachelor’s degree, and to someday work in the area of physical therapy. He concluded, “I have found the right home.”

Head Coach Lee said, “Eli has great talent, and a great spirit, he will be a perfect addition to our team.”
