Omaha, NE – The Barclay College Men’s Soccer team traveled to Grace University (Omaha, NE) on Tuesday with a new roster and many unknowns but walked away with a 2-1 victory.

The Bears started off the scoring in the first half by a throw-in assist from Freshman Mauro Villanueva (Lions, KS) to Freshman Eduardo Salazar (Huntsville, TX). Later in the half, Freshman Alec Stivender (Huntsville, TX) played a long cross to the feet of Salazar for his second goal of the match and 2-0 halftime lead on the road.

“First college game and scoring two goals. It felt great,” exclaimed Salazar.

On the defensive side, All-American goalie Junior Austin Ogle (Hutchinson, KS) put in yet another stellar performance with 17 saves.

Second year Head Coach Kevin Lee added, “We feel glad to have our first game and win in the books. Grace is a solid team and so we are glad to have passed this first test. We were pleased by the effort and contributions from the entire team.”

The Bears (1-0, 0-0) home opener happens to be the first MCCC conference match. The game is scheduled for Saturday, September 1st at 2:00 PM CST against Ozark Christian.

Haviland, KS – The Barclay College Volleyball women opened up their 2012 season against NAIA Southwestern College (Winfield, KS) on Tuesday night. Fans poured into Hockett Auditorium to catch their first glimpse of Lady Bears Volleyball. The Bears took early leads in every set, before falling in three sets to the Moundbuilders.
The Bears dropped the opening set 14-25 after leading 5-3 early. In the second set, the Bears led by as many as four before a big rally by the Moundbuilders helped them pull away late 18-25. All the long rallies in the third set seemed to go the Moundbuilders way as they got the sweep by taking the third set 17-25. The Bears were led by Junior Sarah Sullivan (San Antonio, TX) with five kills, followed by Senior Katie Cruse (San Dimes, CA) and Sophomore Megan Eby with three kills apiece. Transfer Sophomore Kalyn Switzer (Weatherford, OK) led the Bears with 11 assists, while Freshman Lauren Wells (Halstead, KS) contributed nine digs.
“Considering Southwestern’s offense will be one of the fastest offenses we will see all year, I was very pleased at our passing and our never die attitude,” first year Head Coach Shari Bryan concluded. “We need to cut back on our service errors and get better at covering our hitters and the tips. Overall, even though the outcome was not a “W” on the record, we showed a lot of composure and heart, which will lead to great things.”
The Bears (0-1, 0-0) will next travel to Central Bible College (Springfield, MO) on Saturday, September 1st for a match with CBC at 12:30 PM CST and Champion Baptist (Hot Springs, AR) at 2:30 PM.

Our mission is to train leaders. In keeping with that goal Barclay College is stepping forward to provide estate planning seminars across the country. Leadership in stewardship is a high calling and we want to help our alumni and friends lead in this area. The seminar is not a sales pitch and there is no requirement to give anything to Barclay College. We want to raise good stewards who give wisely from their resources. Maybe it’s your church, a camp, a yearly meeting, a mission organization or the special people in your life.

If you would like us to bring an estate planning seminar to your area please let us know and we would be glad to serve you. You can contact Herb Frazier (620-862-5252) at the college to set up a seminar near you.

Wichita, Kansas native Sam Thompson will be transfering to Barclay College this Fall to play soccer for the Bears in 2012.

Thompson played for NAIA Southwestern College in Winfield, KS as a Freshman during the 2011 season and has opted to continue his education and athletic career at Barclay College.

“Sam is a true soccer fan and student of the game. His speed, solid technique, and scrappy style of play will be a huge asset for us,” said Head Coach Kevin Lee. “When he came to try-out he seemed to mesh well with the team and believe he is one of the missing pieces of the puzzle for a championship caliber season. We are excited to have him join our program.”

Sam is the son of Robert and Paulette Thompson.

Barclay College Soccer welcomes Dalton Hall from Great Falls, MT, son of Keith and Ramona Hall.

Hall was a three time MCAA All-Conference goalie, a three time MCAA First Team All-State goalie, and team MVP his senior year. Head Coach Kevin Lee states, “Dalton was a suprise. I heard about him from one of his teachers but didn’t know what to expect. When I got a chance to work with Dalton, it became very clear to me that he had the skill level and athleticism to be a very successful goalie. Dalton will get to train with our All-American goalie, Austin Ogle, and because of this will likely become one of the top goalies in the league. I appreciate his humility, and his willingness to learn. Barclay College is blessed to have another high caliber goalie.”

A youth ministry major, Hall plans on playing basketball at the conclusion of the soccer season as well.

                    Prayer Requests

  • Pray for Dr. Royce Frazier and Dr. Adrian Halverstadt as they represent Barclay College at Iowa Yearly Meeting August 1-4.
  • Senior Nick Sterner is working with a men’s ministry in Pratt, ministering to troubled youth at the Blythe Family Fitness Center, playing basketball and working out.  Through this he is hoping to build relationships and trust that would tear down the walls that prevent the gospel from being heard and reallized in the lives of these young people.
  • Pray for students, staff, faculty, and administrators as the start of a new school year begins on August 20.
  • Pray for the Ross Fine Arts Center project.
